CURATED BY ANTHIA BALIS
While Verge Gallery was temporarily closed during COVID-19 in 2020, Verge Projects developed a student led project which investigated the USYD community’s response to our current global situation. The project pause.play, led by USYD curatorial student Anthia Balis utilised interviews with students as a means to gain insight into their experiences. pause.play examined how members of the USYD community felt about their physical absence from campus, home isolation and re-entering public spaces.
In collaboration with the Calligraphy Society, pause.play presented a text based online exhibition based on these conversations with the USYD community. This research is an ongoing investigation as this global situation develops and we learn to navigate and adapt to our changing world.
Situated on the third level of Fisher Library, pause.play aims to connect the USYD community through the retelling of personal experiences to do with their physical absence from campus, home isolation, re-entering public spaces and uni life.
Featuring artworks by the University of Sydney’s Calligraphy Society (CalSoc): Zhao Mei Zheng, Chloe Lim, Jance Ng, Oscar Xiao, Gloria Wing Yan Chan, Kimberley Chen, and Isaac Gomez, pause.play is a text-based exhibition that uses conversations with the USYD community as the foundation for the artworks.
